Clicking chess in a conversation opened the new-game pane and asked whether you wanted to play the computer or a person, then made you pick the person. The person was on screen. This menu only exists in a conversation with exactly one other member, and that member IS your opponent — asking was asking about something already visible. It confirms instead, because the click puts a message in a colleague's chat: small, but not something to do on a mis-click while browsing a menu. Resuming a game you already have skips the confirmation — reopening your own board costs nobody anything. The confirmation says what actually happens, since it is not what "invite" usually implies: the board opens for you straight away and you move first as white, while they get an invitation to join whenever they like. The board also stops claiming the opponent is thinking when they have not opened it at all — `awaitingOpponentJoin` says which, and the invited player's window reports itself as having looked so the nudge stops.
