The launchpad's masthead carried a kicker, a "good afternoon" heading and a status line of apps/title/trial/date beside the logo, and the member's own controls floated over it absolutely — so the header reserved a 150px gutter and ~130px of height to say the time of day. The logo and the controls now share one flex row, which is the height of the logo alone, and the grid starts that much higher.
